A View Of The Pushkar Lake And The Hill (Note the Savitri Devi temple on top of the rightmost hill)

We completed our quick sightseeing at Ajmer and drove to Pushkar. We had a glimpse of Ana Sagar Lake on our way. Within half an hour we reached Pushkar. Altogether, We started from Jaipur by 6 AM, completed the sightseeing at Ajmer by 10:40 and reached Pushkar by 11:10 in our rental taxi.

Transit:  Cab rental from Jaipur-Ajmer-Pushkar (Diwakar Travels, Pushkar) - Rs 2100.

Duration Of the Entire Journey: 4.5 hours from Jaipur to Pushkar including the sightseeing at Ajmer.

Stay: It is better to stay near the Pushkar lake as one can cover most of the temples by Walk. We stayed at Theerth Palace. It was a 10 minutes walk from the lake and the fare was Rs 1500. Though it was a very small room and did not have proper amenities, we booked it as we had planned to stay only for half a day.

Food: Most of the hotels provide stay cum dining. We had lunch and dinner at our Hotel.

Pushkar is a small town with many temples. It is said that Lord Brahma dropped his Lotus here and the Pushkar Lake was formed. It is also said that the main God here is the Pushkar lake and one must get drenched in it to get rid of one's sins.

Pushkar Lake:

It's a big lake surrounded by 52 ghats(named Varaha ghat, Vishnu ghat, Gau Ghat, and so on). There are many temples around the lake. Though it's not possible to visit them all, we visited a few shrines.

View Of Few Ghats And Some Of The Temples Behind

We took bath in Pushkar Lake and offered prayers on the lake. Though it was noon, it was so cold that we could not stand long inside the water. There are many closed rooms available around the ghats to change clothes. So no worries about that.

Tips: Do Take a Mug with you.

Note: Many priests on the ghat come around asking to perform pooja on the Pushkar lake. They talk in such a way that we would be obliged to give a minimum sum of 400 to 500

Camel Safari Ground where Pushkar Fair happens annually

We had our lunch, took rest and were ready by 3:00 in the evening to visit temples. We had planned to visit only 3 most important temples( Brahma Temple, Savitri Temple, and Old Rangji Temple). As the closing time of the Brahma temple is 8:30 PM and Old Ranji temple is 7 PM, we decided to cover Savitri Devi temple first.

Savitri Temple:

Transit:6 mins drive from Pushkar Lake to Savitri Devi temple winch ticket counter (Note: not till the temple).
Duration of the Visit: 1 and half hours(Via Steps-980), 5 mins (Via ropeway-Not including the waiting time)
Ticket: Ropeway Ticket Rs.100 per head,

As it was vacation time, there was a big queue for the winch. The ticket counter official informed us that it may take even 1 hour of waiting. So, we decided to climb up the steps as we had experienced climbing Shravanabelagola( around 700 steps) in Hassan(Karnataka).

It took us about 45 minutes to climb up the hill(980 steps) and reach Savitri Matha Temple. Though it was tiring, we got an awesome view of Pushkar town all through our way. Be cautious about the Hanuman Langurs. Better carry nothing if you prefer climbing the steps.

About the temple: Once Savitri Matha was not able to reach the yagna performed by Brahma on Time. So Lord Brahma married a Local Girl, Gayathri to complete the yagna on time. Lord Savitri became angry, went and stayed on a hilltop. Later she was convinced saying, Savitri Devi will always be worshiped ahead of Gayathri Devi.

View Of The Winch

We spent 10 to 15 minutes on top of the hill getting darshan and taking pictures. There was no much queue to get the darshan. Got blessing from Savithri and Gayathri matha and climbed down the hill. It took us around 25 minutes to get down the hill.

We took some rest for a few minutes and started towards the Brahma temple.

Brahma Temple:

Transit: It's a 15 to 20 minutes walk from Savitri Devi temple
Duration of the Visit: 10 to 15 minutes
Ticket: No Ticket is required

Brahma Temple is near the Pushkar Lake and it is one of the very few temples for him. Brahma with four heads gives darshan along with two Devis on his sides. It's a simple temple with not many shrines for other goddesses inside it.

Old Rangji Temple:

There are two Rangji Temple; one is Old Ranji Temple(Purana Rangji Mandir) and the other one is the new Rangji Temple(Naya Rangji Mandir). We did not know that there were two Rangji temples when we visited Pushkar, We visited only the old temple. So, when you are here, do visit both the temples.

The temple was very good in Architecture. It looked like a royal palace with beautiful carvings on the pillars and tomb. The main deity here is Lord Vishnu.

Note: Leather Products are not allowed inside the temple. Belts, Leather Pouches, wearing socks are a "No" here.

By 6:45 we completed our sightseeing of important temples in Pushkar and we were ready to start to Udaipur the next day
