Sanganeri Gate, One Of The Seven Gates To Enter The Old Jaipur City

Everybody knows that Jaipur is called the pink city. With all those expectations we landed in Jaipur on December 25th 2019. To our surprise it did not appear so. It appeared like normal city in India with all big new buildings, malls and hotels painted in different colours.
As we proceeded to our stay we understood that it was the OLD JAIPUR which was called the ‘PINK CITY’ earlier and the phrase now means the entire Jaipur as such. Big Red sandstone coloured Wall Surrounds Old Jaipur with many gates or arches in different directions as Entrance to the Old City. Every building appears similar and in the same colour within this great wall.

Best Time: We visited Jaipur during Christmas Time and we felt it to be the best. As it is a bit sunny during the morning time(Just around 20 degrees between 12 PM to 4 PM) and very cold during the night time (~5 degrees) , we need to cover ourselves with proper clothing. We fitted ourselves with thermals so we were very comfortable throughout the day.
Stay: The best option to enjoy the city is to stay in old Jaipur. One reason is, all the main attractions are available within walkable distance. The second thing is, you can go for a walk after the city settles down and have a click at the places in night lighting. The third and important point is, you can go shopping anytime (but before 8:30 PM) you wish as there are many important bazaars here.
We stayed at LMB. It is really one of the best places to opt. It's a 3 star hotel with all basic amenities. Room was comfortable. Jaipur's most popular restaurant that provides tasty dishes and sweets was at the lower level. The shops were right outside. So, we had a wonderful stay with happy sightseeing and excellent food.
Advance ticket to be booked: There is a composite ticket available online on rajasthan government site. If you wish to avoid standing in long queues during vacation time, please don’t forget to book it online. This was the best planned idea in our trip which really saved us many hours. The Composite ticket costs Rs.300 per person and it covers multiple places. Please refer to the government site to know about the places that are covered.
Food not be missed:  Rajasthani dishes are really a great treat to the taste buds. Do not miss the Rajasthani thali, Phini, Gaewar, Malpua and Kachoris.

We tasted different dishes during our stay in Jaipur. LMB Provided us the best taste in Rajasthani thali and sweets.
Transit Charges: If you stay in Old Jaipur you can either take a walkable tour yourself to the most famous attractions or take share autos to every other point. The share autos charge normally Rs 10 to 15 per head from one point to the other. They charge 80 to 100 bucks per small family to cover a bit longer distance(for 15 minutes drive) or in case of heavy traffic.Going to the forts(Outside Old Jaipur), include climbing hills so that is a different charge. Ola Cabs are also available here. There are private Buses from Hawa mahal to forts for 15( non AC) and 25(AC) bucks.
Note: The traffic near the Johari bazaar is worse. If you opt for taxi make sure the pick up point or the drop point is bit away from Johari Bazar (during Vacation time).
Places to be covered:
The minimum number of days you need to cover Jaipur is 2 or 2 and 1/2 days. Allot a day to cover the old Jaipur city and the zoo, another full day to cover the forts and the remaining, the last half a day for shopping. If you have sufficient days, try to spend more time in Amer fort, City Palace and in Galtaji Mandir.

Temples: Kale Hanuman ji, Birla Mandir, Galtaji Mandir and Moti Dongri Temples are in and around the Old Jaipur city. Kale Hanuman Ji can be reached by walk. Birla Mandir and Moti Dongri Mandir can be clubbed together. They are at a 15 minutes ride from the hanuman Temple. So better take an auto or bus.(A 15 minute ride may take even 1 hour when you get caught into traffic near Johri Bazaar). The Temples here closes by 8:30PM. So, try to be there before the closing hours. Galtaji Mandir is 10 km from Jaipur. So we covered it while returning from the forts.

Birla Mandir, Jaipur
Click πŸ‘‰The Old Jaipur City : Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Kale hanuman ke mandir are walkable from the old city center. If you are not ready to walk take share auto from one place to the other. The auto fares are as mentioned above. Albert Hall Museum is a bit away from the city center. So we covered it on our way from the fort.
Click πŸ‘‰The Royal Forts: The Three Forts Amer, Nahargarh and Jaigarh can be covered together. Jal mahal is on the way to the forts.
