Day4: Ajmer

Jaipur (πŸ‘‰Old Jaipur City,πŸ‘‰ Royal Forts)(3N) – Ajmer(0N) – Pushkar(1N) – Udaipur(2N) - Chittorgarh(0N)

(Click on the name of the cities to browse through each in detail)

Nizam Gate, The Main Entrance Of The Ajmer Sharif Dargah
Ajmer and Pushkar are twin towns that must be visited when you come to Jaipur. Each town has many places to visit. As we had planned our stay in Pushkar, we restricted our places to those that must not be missed.

Transit: You can reach Ajmer from Jaipur via Train, Bus or on your vehicle. The bus fare(Private) to Ajmer costs around Rs. 500/person.(Note: The timing may or may not suit your trip). The train fare comes for a minimum of 450/ person in a second class compartment. Further, one has to travel from the station and look for a mode of transport for sightseeing and then need to catch another bus to move on to Pushkar. No big difference in travel time. It is a minimum of 2.5 to 3 hours by train/ bus. Half hr sooner when you choose the cab.

By considering the departure time, travel time and cost, renting a cab is wiser than going by train or bus for a single-family. The rental taxi( Diwakar Travels) from Jaipur to Pushkar Via Ajmer(Sightseeing) comes for around 2100.

Not To Miss: Adhai Dhin Ka Jhonpra. You will come to know a lot.
Delhi Gate, Ajmer
Ajmer city is surrounded by walls built by Emperor Akbar and it has five gates to enter from different directions. The wall and the Gates were built to protect Ajmer from the Enemies. One among the gates is Delhi Gate.

Ajmer Sharif Dargah
The next spot was a very interesting one. It's Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra(Meaning- Two and half-day shed mosque).

Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra:

  • Transit: Less than 5 minutes walk from Ajmer Dargah
  • Ticket: Not required
  • Duration of the visit: A minimum of 20 minutes is needed.
  • What To See: Lovely Architecture.
  • Guide: Not Necessary. Google is the best Guide.

It's a big shed for performing prayer on those days. It's said that the mosque was built by destroying a Saraswathi temple inside a Sanskrit college. Though we are not aware of how far it's true, we saw many defaced figures of the Goddess.

The Main Entrance
It's a very big building in the center surrounded by a big open space. Huge walls, roofs, and pillars speak of a very good Architecture. The pillars had many defaced figures.

Around The Main Hall
There are many sealed rooms around the main hall. We were very curious about what would be inside the sealed room and we were able to find many destroyed temple parts (peeped through the edge of the sealed room 😜).

Akbar Fort Wall

It was once a living place of the son of Emperor Akbar. Now, It's a fort that displays many artifacts in each room.

The Main Entrance
The Fort has a courtyard at the center surrounded by many rooms at the ground level, numbered on each entrance. Each room had something displayed on Ancient Civilizations and other kinds of stuff. Idols from Harappan Civilizations, Ancient Paintings, Armors are some of the items displayed.

The Center Courtyard
Model figures of Akbar and Man Singh
In simple words, Akbar fort is a small museum that has artifacts on various civilizations and few model figures depicting Akbar's lifestyle.

Though there are few other sites to be visited in Ajmer, we ended our Ajmer Sightseeing with Akbar Fort and moved on to Pushkar.
