Day1-Vizag

 Day 1

The train reached Vizag sharp on time, and we were at our room by 12:30 p.m. After a few hours of rest, we started our day by 2:30 pm .

Places Covered: Bavikonda, Thotlakonda, Bheemili. (People interested in ancient ruined sites do not Miss these sites)

Mode Of Transport:  Hotel Cab

Cost: Approximately Rs. 1400/-

Duration: 2:30 Pm To 7:00 Pm

Our first place of visit was Bavikonda.

Bavikonda

This is one of the popular ancient ruined Buddhist sites at a  45 minutes ride from Hotel Dolphin. Bavikonda means hill of wells in Telugu. Many wells were built here to store water (They were closed during the reconstruction) during the ancient Buddhist monks time.

Many Stupas ( Structure designed to preserve any body parts, ashes and objects used by Buddha and his followers) , Base Of Viharas (Living Place), Base Of Chaityas (Temple Or Prayer Hall) are also found here. By specifying it as 'Base', it means only a partially reconstructed structure is present . The Original structure is ruined and these basic structures are reconstructed to let the visitors imagine the lifestyle of the monks of those days.

MahaChaitya (Main Prayer Hall)

The remains of stupas, halls, and wells here indicates that there existed a well-established Monastery in this place.
Specialty: Though everything appeared to be a simple brick structure, this is the place where Buddha's bone and ashes were unearthed in a pot during the reconstruction of the place. Be ready to spend at least half an hour here.

Thotlakonda:

Thotlakonda is another Buddhist site which is at a 15 minutes ride from Bavikonda. This is another ruined site which tells us about the habitat of the Buddhist monks during the ancient period. Partly reconstructed kitchen, storeroom, viharas, and dining room used by the monks can be found here.

Partly Reconstructed Structures

By specifying it as partly reconstructed, it means a raised brick structure of the base of the rooms. It was quite different. One might require a minimum of half-hour to spend here.

Thotlakonda Beach View Point Outside Thotlakonda Site

Thotlakonda beach: An awesome beach. If you plan to visit this beach, Please ask your driver to drop you near the natural arch formed place.

Transit Time: 5 minutes from Thotlakonda

Minimum Time required: 30 minutes.

Huge Rocks

Naturally Formed Arch, A Good Photo Spot

This is another beautiful Spot here

It was different. It can be called a rocky beach with a naturally formed rock arch, many naturally and beautifully eroded rocks, and a variety of shells gave us a chance to click some poses.

Bheemili beach:

It is another popular beach here.

Transit Time:15 minutes from Thotlakonda Beach

Minimum Time Required: 30 minutes.

As we enjoyed most of our time at Thotlakonda beach we spent very little time just for namesake to avoid skipping a popular site. It had a small lighthouse too.

Since it was already late, we did not go to Pavurulakonda, as it would also be similar to the other two sites.

After a few hours of sightseeing, we were back to our hotel. It took us 1.5 hours to reach our hotel from Bheemli beach.
