Wayanad(2015)

Wayanad is one of the best tourist destinations in Kerala. We planned to explore Wayanad during the summer of 2015(April). Most of the places involve heavy walking. So, be prepared. People who are not keen on sightseeing but like to enjoy nature can also opt for it.

What to Expect: Wayanad is a place to enjoy lakes, waterfalls, caves, and small treks. There are only a few tourist spots all throughout Wayanad. So, we included three national parks in three different directions that connect Wayanad with TamilNadu and Karnataka.

Not to be missed: Edakkal Caves, Irupu Falls, Kuruva Island and Kanthanpara waterfalls.

Meenmuty, Soochipara and Kanthanpara are the main falls here. As we visited Wayanad during the off-season, many waterfalls were dry. So, we visited only the Kanthanpara Falls. Of the three, people say that Kanthanpara Falls is easily accessible and safe for kids to enjoy.

Duration: The tourist places are scattered across Wayanad. So, it is better to plan it for 3 to 5 days with a day of rest in between. Consider allocating sufficient time to enjoy each place as most of the places involve some trekking. We planned it for 5 days in total with a break of two days for rest. 3 days are quite enough for sightseeing.

Best time to visit: Definitely it is not the right time to enjoy the complete beauty of Waterfalls and lovely nature during March and April. The best time would be between December and February.

Mode Of Transport: As the places are scattered, it is best to opt for a cab instead of depending on Public Transport.

Eatery: Many resorts here do not have In-hall dining but they provide whatever we prefer to eat in the room. So, do confirm with the place whether they provide what you require. It is better to do some research on the restaurants near the place you plan to have your food on the way(while sightseeing) if you prefer comfort over food.

Food: Kerala Parathas were good.

Stay: We stayed at Silent Creek resort. It was a good stay. They did not have In-hall dining and they served us what we preferred. The food was good.

I have specified the number of hours spent each day for sightseeing so that one can plan accordingly depending on the places.
