Day 1-Mysore Station-Shravanabelagola-Hassan

Shravanabelagola:

In Short:

  • Travel Time: Mysore station to Shravanabelagola- 1 hr 45 mins without traffic.
  • Total Time Spent: Up and down the hill (including rest n clicks): 1 hr 10 mins.
  • Need to climb 620 to 670 steps. So, be prepared. Wear socks in summer.
  • Carry enough water and head cap

The story background of this temple goes like, a general's mother had vision of Gomateshwara statue (which was not built at that time) in her dream and she vowed not to eat until her dream was fulfilled. The general and his mother started their journey towards it and happened to rest on Chandragiri hill where the general had a vision of himself shooting arrows at Vindhyagiri hill which is in opposite direction. The shot arrows were stacked one above the other until it reached 17m high which formed the reason for the construction of such a big monolithic statue on Vindhyagiri hill.

We reached Vindhyagiri hill and started climbing the steps by 3:35PM. We climbed 40 to 50 steps at a stretch and took rest in between.We made it in just 1 hr and 10 mins. The time includes to and fro, rest and clicks. We were near the top point by 4:45PM and were back to cab by 5:00PM.

Food Near The Spot: A2B is just 30 mins from Sharavanabelagola. We filled our tummy and started towards the hotel. Though the taste was not good it filled our tummy😁

We started towards Malligae Residency(Hassan)by 5:50 pm and reached by 6:20 pm.

1.Realisation: Am I obsessed with my thoughts?  Will you please stop chattering? Why don't you leave me free ?Can you please stop thinking about it? Why do you always hold on to it?   The moment we informed others that we are planning to spend five days in Vizag, the first question everyone asked was " What is there in Vizag to spend five days?" . To be honest, we felt it tight by the end of our trip. Though Vizag as such doesn’t have many places to visit, there are places in and around Vizag to make the stay wonderful. For people who are interested in an ancient ruined sites, this is a good place to visit. Places Not To Be Missed: While in Vizag, it is better to combine Araku and Borra Caves and a few rare temples near Vizag. So do not miss Borra Caves, Katiki Waterfalls, Srikurmam, and Srimukhalingam while in Vizag.  Stay : Dolphin Hotel An Awesome hotel with good rooms and a lovely spread in the buffet. They arranged for excellent takeaways with fruit salad for our Borra trip(even at odd hours). Travel desk facility is also available. Local and outstation trips can be booked at a fair price.
