Spiritual Trip 1-Madhya Kailash To ISKCON

It's 16.02.19 Saturday.
It happened to be a day of temples today. If it had not been arranged by our yoga mam Anitha, I wouldn’t have got chance to visit these many temples in a single day. Thanks a ton to the lovely lady.🙏🙏🙏.
Started our trip from the pick-up point Meru temple Kodambakkam by 6:40 am. Within half hour we reached our first spot.

Anantha Padbanabaswamy Thirukovil(Adayar):

1. The Main Deity 2. Aalamara Shivan
We reached the temple by 7:10.The day started with the blessings of Vinayagar inside the temple.
Speciality: Unlike Trivandrum Padmanabaswamy temple where the deity can be viewed only part by part through three different doors, here at Chennai, the entire deity can be viewed through the middle door. The flower decoration was great.
There were other sannadhis too. Got the blessings of navagraha, aalamara sivan and were out by 7:30.

Madhya Kailash(Adayar):

1. Entrance 2.Venkatesa Vinayagar from Tirupathi and Suyambu Vinayagar 3. Aadhyantha Prabhu (half Vinayagar and half aanjaneyar)

Next stop was Madhya Kailash. I have crossed this place many times but never stopped here to visit the temple. It happened today. We reached the temple by 7:40. The deity Venkatesa Anantha Vinayagar gave his darshan on entering the temple.
The sivalingam near Vinayagar sanadhi was great. It appeared like, a chariot’s top portion was decorated fully with rudhratsham and the deity was placed inside it. The rudhratsha decoration added glory to the beautiful lingam.
The other deity that caught my eyes was markandeyar  in the koshtam , which I haven’t seen in other temples.  Apart from these, there were sannadhis for ambikai, anjeneyar, navagraha and many others.
Speciality: The speciality here is, the Vinayagar was brought from Tirupati Venkatachalapathy Temple and there is a suyambu Vinayagar which is kept beneath it. Aadhyantha Prabhu( half Vinayagar and half anjaneyar ) sanadhi is another speciality here.
We covered all sanadhis in 10 minutes and were out by 7:50.

Ashtalakshmi Temple(Besant Nagar ):

1.A View Of the Second and Third level of the Temple  2. Enjoying the beach view 3. A view of the ground level of the Temple

Next comes the popular Ashtalakshmi Temple in our visit. We reached the temple by  8:05a.m. Lakshmi Narayanar with goddess Lakshmi are at the center and eight forms of Lakshmi are around it at different levels of the temple. Gaja Lakshmi, Santhana Lakshmi, Vijaya Lakshmi, Vidhya Lakshmi are one level  above the main goddess, Dhana Lakshmi is one level below the main deity and aadhi Lakshmi, Dhanya Lakshmi, Dhairya Lakshmi are at the ground level.
Speciality: The speciality here is the temple's multi-tier structure.
Had a view of the beach from the upper level and came out by 8:30.

Pambanswamigal (Thiruvanmiyur):

1. The Outer view Of the Place. 2. Sri Pamban Swamigal whose Jeeva samadhi has been raised in this place.
We reached Pamban Swamigal jeeva samadhi by 8:40a.m. It seems he was a great devotee of Lord murugar and has written shanmuga kavacham on praise of him. The place appeared to be a meditation hall. We had a glance of the samadhi and were out by 8:50a.m.

Chakkarai Amma: Next in our list was Chakarai amma jeeva samadhi.

1. The Temple Entrance 2. Sri Chakkarai Amma 3. The Idol that was raised for her
It seems she was a siddhar and helped  people in curing their sufferings. It is also said that she used to fly like a bird and had snake around her hip (Thanks to Savitha for sharing this information)
We reached the place by 8: 55a.m. A separate sannadhi had been raised for her and her idol is decorated completely with flowers similar to the decoration of women goddess. This place was similar to a normal temple with a meditation hall. We came out by 9:00.

Arupadai veedu(Besant Nagar ):

1. The Entrance 2. The Interior
Few like me might not have known that there is also a arupadai veedu temple in Chennai. We reached the temple by 9:10.
There are six different Mandabams for six different murugars. Each murugar appeared differently as in their original sthalam.

Murugars at a glance:
  • Pazhani Dhandayudhapani (had dhandam on his hand)
  • Swamimalai Swaminadhar Swamy (was well dressed with white panchakacham and held vel n dhandam on his hands. Elephant is the deity’s vahanam here).
  • Thiruchendhur ThiruSendhilAndavar
  • Thiruparangundram Subramaniya Swamy (Heard that the lord will be in a seated position but I did not see it as the lord was covered with curtain then. Check it)
  • Thiruthani Subramaniya Swamy ( The lord holds Vajravel on his right hand. Instead of peacock, one could notice elephant as the vahanam even here and it does not faces the deity)
  • Pazhamudhir Solai Murugar appeared differently on a pillar like structure with four hands.
Had nice blessings from all the murugars and we were out by  9:50 after finishing our breakfast there.

Marundeeshwarar (Thiruvanmiyur):

1. A view of the temple from Outside 2. Suzhalum Lingam 3.The Inner Prahaarams(The left one is the Vinayagar Sannadhi and the right one is the main deity entrance)
It was just 10 to 15 minutes from arupadai veedu. People come here to pray Marundheeshwarar for curing the diseases and for the sake of good health.

Speciality: The speciality here is, there are three vinayakars side by side in a sannadhi which is said to be a place where brahma, vishnu and shiva together offered pooja for vinayagar here.
There are about 108 small lingams and 5 big lingams(PanchaLingams) here. The main Sivalingam is well decorated with flowers and gave us awesome blessing.
Another interesting thing here to be noticed is that, there is a rotating lingam painted on the roof of the temple entrance. The painting of the lingam appears to face us from all the directions. They call it as  the suzhalum lingam.
Got the blessing of marundheeswarar and we were out by 10:30a.m.

Thiruvanmiyur baba: We reached baba temple by 10:40a.m. Baba was awesomely decorated with flowers and we got his blessings from him and left the place by 11:00

Akkarai Baba (Injambakkam) : Twenty minutes later we reached akkarai baba temple by 11:20a.m.

1. Akarai  Baba 2. The Dhuni Wall where baba's image appeared 3.Baba is being bathed by one of his devotee 4. Baba at the age of 16.
Speciality: The speciality I noticed here was the dhuni wall where babas image appeared on a blessed day. We can bathe saibaba’s idol with our own hands. We worshipped him and left by  11:40a.m.

Iskcon (ECR Road):  Though Iskon was not in our list, we still had time for the day and we reached iskon by 11:55a.m.

1.The Main Entrance 2.The Main Hall and the next is the zoomin picture of the god

The arthi was scheduled to start at 12:30p.m so we took rest till then enjoying the nice breeze. It was an unexpected blessing from sree krishnar and it was an awesome aarthi and darshan. It was as great as other ISKCON temples.

Done with all the temples. We finally had puliyogare and curd rice for our lunch and
packed up by 1:30p.m.Within an hour we reached home.
It was an awesome spiritual trip arranged by our Yoga mam, Anitha. Thanks Mam. Hoping to cover many more rare temples with you.
