Awesome Allepey

Day 4 on our Cochin-Allepey Trip went in a Leisure way.
Early by 8:00 Am we were ready to visit an Island that was at an eye distance from the resort.

Pathiramanal Island :
The hotel offered us Shikara Ride to the Island. The Island was not so big but was good with full of unpolluted nature
.

Before talking about the Island, it is a must to talk about the ride.

Among the various types of boat rides that have to be experienced in Kerala, Shikara is one of the best ones to opt and it is also the cheaper one. Many talk about the houseboats in Alleppey, but if you have a small kid with you it is not the best option to enjoy the ride as it is not possible for the kids to rest in a single place. It is better to opt for the houseboats only if you are ready to be in the boat for the whole day. We did not opt for it as we thought it would be slightly boring.

On the other hand, the Shikara ride could be rented for 1 hour or 2. You can enjoy the same nature in this ride. We enjoyed it.

The resort we stayed offered us the Shikara ride to the Pathiramanal Island. The boat rider dropped us at one end of the Island. We got down and enjoyed walking through the Island for a few minutes and we returned to our boat. On our way to our resort, our boat rider arranged for a speed boat ride. We hired it for few minutes and enjoyed it as well. Wow, it was superb!!! Though it was only for few minutes, we got an awesome feel riding on a speed boat.

Back on our Shikara and back to the resort.

Spent the first half of the day lazily and visited two places in the evening.

Karumudi Kuttan: It was a small place with just a statue at the center. But there is one thing that is peculiar about the statue.

What special about the Statue is that, only one half of Buddha’s Statue is present. It is believed that the other half was destroyed by an elephant. People come here to get the blessings and to get relieved from the sufferings.

Amblapuzha Krishna temple
Our next visit was Amblapuzha Krishnar. The temple opens at 5:00 in the evening. We were before time and there was no crowd. We went around exploring the temple.

It is said that when Tipu Sultan raided Guruvayur region in the late 17's , the Krishnar Idol from Guruvayur was brought here to protect it.

This is a very famous temple in kerala and the paal payasa prasadham is famous too.

Interesting Story: There is an interesting story behind the reason for offering Paal Payasam here. It is believed that once Lord krishna disguised himself as sage and challenged the king on the Chess game. Obviously, the Lord won and asked grains of rice as the prize based on certain calculation of the chessboard squares which resulted in trillions and trillions of grains. The King was unable to pay it. The Lord revealed his true form and asked the king to pay the debt over years in the form of serving paalpayasam freely in the temple daily until the debt clears.  It is also believed that Guruvayoorappan visits the temple daily to receive the offerings.

Do not miss: There is a seperate sanidhi where Guruvayoorapan photo is kept and this is the place where the Guruvayooran from Guruvayur was hid during the raid.

Allepey Beach:
Last but not the least was the Allepey Beach. It is another beach to enjoy. There are many shops in the beach similar to our Marina beach in Chennai.
